Posting this from a motel on the road home. I decamped early thanks to a positively cinematic dust storm that struck the event site and turned the sleeve of my ridge pole into a piece of conceptual art.
Hopefully everyone else survived the excitement and is clean, warm and dry.
My apologies to anyone who hoped to take my classes on Saturday, but, as mentioned, we were busy dealing with Interesting Times.
Storm kami notwithstanding, I had a wonderful time. Thanks to Lash-dono, Sholeh-hime, Yagyu-dono, Li Guang Ming Great Hero Of China. Mitsuhide-dono and Judith-hime for being such congenial guests. It's always such a treat to spend time with my Tousando "family." I miss you all already.
Hopefully we will be more organized next year and Rising Sun will rise again.

Wow! did the storm bend your ridge pole sleeve!? I saw pictures of outhouses blown over, but bending one of those ridge poles too? Wow. I hope you were ok.

My ridge pole sleeve isn't terribly beefy. It's a rectangular tube of galvanized steel that's spot welded together down one side, designed to join two lengths of 2x4. 95% of the time, this is ample for my tent. If it starts getting stupid windy, I take the poles down and drop the canvas on top of the contents - this time the wind simply beat me to it.
Scary was watching the bigger pavilions start rocking around. Some did better than others, but that big round thing that Hauoc's gang use as a kitchen/common area, with no walls, well, it's a freakin' kite and was losing ropes like crazy.
The walk from our side of the battlefield to the parking area to get my truck (over 1/2 mile) was accomplished with my kosode pulled up over my head to shield my eyes. The din of all that silk snapping out behind me was deafening - and of course, I could only see a few feet in front of where I was stepping, which made the walk seem a lot longer than it probably was.

I have the same ridge pole sleeve. Probably the same tent, a 12x16 saxon wedge from panther..? Maybe its time I upgrade it.

Mine's a 9 x 12 Civil War wedge from Blockade Runner (yes, really).
