Looking for help finding a name...

[Kitagawa Natsutarou Tsubasa]

Alrighty, unfortunatly my name construction is 4 years out of period, so i decided to choose a new, super fantastic name.

After an hour of looking through words and names that I could use (and enjoy) I came accross Tsubasa. Awesome, i know.

Only problem is, I cannot find a reference of it in period as a surname or first name. Now to be fair, I've only looked in google, and unfortunatly most of that is filled with anime rubbish.

I have contacted the american Japanese heritage group, hoping they may have record of an early japanese bloke.

I am pretty sure, that the name can be justified for use in the SCA as a possible name based upon what I have read on the tousando website, but I (and the heralds) would much prefer some form of documentation.

I would greatly appreciate anyone who could help me with my problem.

Tsubasa is a given name. It's also one of the handful that can be used for both men and women. It's also a pretty modern name, I believe.

In terms of meaning, I can see it as a woman's name in period (albeit not documented); I can't see justifying it as a man's name in period without documentation.

Currently talking to the rocket herald about it fitting in based on the 'constructed name' rule as it (at least I believe so based upon my reading) fits japanese naming convention.

A source would have just made things easier

Well, the thing is, it's clearly *not* "constructed" -- it's an actual name. The issue is, whether this name, like "Caitlyn" (for example) is a period name (nope) as WELL as a modern name (yup). It's really easy to document it as a name in use now.

I can't recall ever seeing it in a historical text, and I'm still organizing my library post-move so I don't know where all my books are just yet.

Unless we find it, we may have to roll the dice.

As I said, I can see it *possibly* being a woman's name in period, but I strongly doubt it would have been used by a man.

I'll see how it goes with the rocket herald. When you get your books, I'd appreciate it even if you can only find the reference as a female name.

Ah well, just have to see what the rocket thinks. I personally love the name, but am more then willing to fall into line with SCA standards if need be.
