After viewing the photos Ishida-dono posted of his new sageo cords, it occurred to me that I might be able to make similar cords on my marudai using a modification of a standard kumihimo pattern. Looks convincing, no? I used a silk/cotton blend embroidery thread. Each strand of the braid comprises 24 threads, and it is a nine strand braid. Really. Aside from needing nine tama, it's pretty straightforward. I started with Jacqui Carey's square braid (8H in "Creative Kumihimo") and simply added a ninth strand to the middle of the top group. Anyway, fun way to spend a couple of hours on a day off from work.
