Title: Japanese No Masks Author: Friedrich Perzynski Year Published: This is a republish, by Dover from 2005 ISBN: 0-486-44014-1 Language: English Pages: 152 Period: Period really doesnt effect Noh too much, as it is largely unchanged due to the semi ritual nature of it. That being said most of the works in here are edo. Subjects: Noh, masks My Thoughts: I wish this book was in color. It is a great catalog of antique masks with some information provided. All the same this is more of a b&w photo catalog. Info is sparse.

I suggest you get your hands on THIS baby. Miracles and Mischief: Noh and Kyogen Theatre in Japan. It's from an exhibition at the LA County Museum a few years ago and it's full of great color plates of masks, costumes and props. There's even a key in the back deciphering what characters wear garments in which configurations. www.amazon.com/Miracles-Mischief-Kyogen-Theater-Japan/dp/0875871887

(This is why I don't associate with vagrants, peasants or actors. They have no concept of how to care for nice things.) Use your sleeve, dear.

I just logged on the board after major disappointment - lets say my job hunt is not going well to say the least. That being said this was just the kind of laugh I needed.
