So, along with offering battle side tea...I thought it was also suiting to offer some games to my guests. That being said, would you please share with me info on period Japanese gambling and games? I know very little beyond tea tasting and incense gambling...so I am all ears on books to check out and any insight offered.

In regards to gambling, sugaroku. Apparently, the gambling associated with that game got so bad, it had to be outlawed a few times (which if anything, says how well those laws actually worked).
As for kai awase, if you would like, I can send you instructions/files for making your own paper variant. The interior pictures are blobs of colors and the name of the color in English and Japanese and the shell pattern is randomly generated noise in Photoshop. So no special knowledge is required- just a discriminating eye.
