The Shoso-in repository has a website.

I found it was best to have two tabs open on my browser, one running Japanese-to-English in Google Translate and one in the original Japanese. For some reason, when you click on the thumbnails in Google Translate, they won't open up and you get bounced to a page in Japanese.

Holy crap, it's after nine. No WONDER I'm starving. I've been browsing the textiles collection.....

Just took a quick look with Google Translate turned on, and it was so funny. I'm not sure what these things are, but the translation says: "Sheath your swords children. Repellent Green Fangs." It's right next to "Sow your belt tight spots." (which actually are some nifty looking belt plaques). shosoin.kunaicho.go.jp/shosoinPublic/search.do?classCd=00011

... Okay, those were not as funny as "silver spur number one child removal case." (Which is a lovely little _travel_ case for some small ornament, I'm sure.)

I just discovered that as of December 26th, the Shoso-in web site is available in English! *cough* *sputter*

HOT DAMN! Now I don't have to have two browsers going to translate links for navigation.
