I have to wonder if this is a really, really badly translated news article. It's not clear whether they mean it's 12th c. BC or CE and this is the only article I've been able to find with any photos. However, the claim that this is the oldest pottery ever found in Japan is off the wall, as there are Jomon period pieces that are older than 1300 BC! archaeologydailynews.com/12th-century-pottery-found-in-japan/

My guess: They found a 12th century piece of pottery, and used a picture of Jomon pottery, which is what the caption is about.
It is definitely confusing, though.
