Its been a super busy month, but I finally got around to doing some work! I got all my pieces cut out and cleaned up. Going to hammer on it some more today. Hopefully my plan for all the dangly bits works out. www.onlinemetals.com/ cuts and ships metal for cheap. Cutting up a few 48" x 2.5" strips should give me all I need. Attachments:

Is this type of armor dished at all? Its always seemed to me that it would be uncomfortable with just straight sides like that....

From all the examples that I have seen, the sides are just curved around the body. Also keep in mind, I'm 6'2" and 150lbs, so my armor proportions are probably a bit weird.

Yeah, this type really isn't dished, it is perfect for skinny people though. Just a recommendation, though, lip the bottom of your plates out a little so when they are sitting on your hips they don't cut into you. I made a plastic set like this for a friend and he had that problem until we rolled the edges a little.

formed and fitted all my plates, and took my first shot at riveting plates together. I think it came out pretty darn good. Going to get all the hinges in place tomorrow!

Coming alone really nicely! I didn't finish today like I planned, and I'll be out of town for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully the rest of my supplies will be in by the time I come back. Also, The plates are 16ga steel, and I'm an idiot made connected my side plates backwards... so it opens on the left. Oh well...

Nice job, That looks great! If I was skinny, I would make one of those. Except I think I would like it out of 22 ga spring steel! It would be so light.
Are you going to powder coat that?

Finished! I still have some more shaping to do in order to get it to fit right. Its hard to predict how the steel will fit compared to the paper pattern. Right now its mainly the watagami not fitting quite right, but I think they will work out fine after I take the grinder to them. I'll be getting it powder coated once all the rest of the pieces are made. It'll give me some time to keep working on the details.

I hate you skinny people. I really want one of these. NICE, NICE job. The only comment-- I'd straighten out the gyôyô a bit. They shouldn't point into the chest like that. THe curve should be at the top, and then it flattens. That's the ONLY correction that comes to mind.

Easy enough, I'll get those fixed up. I've finally gotten the overall shape and fit corrected. As other people have mentioned, its tough to get this style to fit everywhere so precisely. I put everything on yesterday, and it fits fantastic! Doesn't pinch anywhere, very little weight on my shoulders, full range of motion, and sits very comfortably on my hips. I also just reorder the rest of the material to finish the kuzazuri. I scavenged what I had ordered before to make my sode One other thing, I'm still planning on using fabric panels to attach the kuzazuri to the dou. I ditched the european style 4-1 mail, and I'm going to just have the bare fabric for now. I'm planning on adding proper japanese mail later on, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding an easy way to purchase/produce the horizontal links in a timely manner.

Nice. I like clean lines, and I like kusazuri that FIT.

Finally got it painted. Thunderstorms every single afternoon made this the hardest step so far.
