This is meant to be a recreation of the green hitatare kamishimo that is dated in Mitsuo Kure's book as being "Mid-Kamakura", only without all the fabric painting. ![](http://www.ee0r.com/proj/images/hitatare-kamishimo.jpg) All the braid and cord is store bought, flat cotton twill tape for the sleeves and drawstring cord for the ties and kotsuyu. All the green fabric is a nice heavy linen, presumably the same stuff Ishida-dono used ofr his, as it's from the same source. I had enough extra fabric to make a kataginu, but I think it might look a little funny to wear an unadorned kataginu with hakama that have kotsuyu. Anyway, more pictures at - www.ee0r.com/proj/hitatare.htmlI still have to make the proper undergarments. I have fabric for them but may not have time for several weeks.

Love that color. Nice work, but I'd rather see it ON YOU.

Sumimasen ... which of Kure-san's books is it in? I am looking through my copy of _Samurai: an Illustrated History_ and failing to find the original.

This one is in _Samurai: Arms, Armor, Costume_, which I refer to as the "Kure Red Book". I should have specified. It's the same garment as www.iz2.or.jp/english/fukusyoku/busou/5.htm at the Japanese Costume Museum in Kyoto.

Ah, great. I'll be on the lookout for that book then, too. Thanks!

That book is scary and wrong a lot, although it has pretty pictures. Ishiyama-dono, that is gorgeous, as always. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

So-hime, be warned: the Big Red Book is very shiny and has lots of color photographs. The text, however, is a minefield. That book is scary and wrong a lot, although it has pretty pictures. I agree with these two worthy gentles, of course. I try to use the text from the Costume Museum website to compensate for the book's sub-par text and the pictures from the book to compensate for the website's sub-par images.

I completely agree. It is amazing how the little things, like the knots, bring out everything else.
