Whenever Chinese New Year rolls around, I'm all for proclaiming, "Gung Hay Fat Choy!" as I've learned, but it just feels wrong with all the Japanese stuff floating in my head. With my basic grasp of Japanese and a bit of help from Google I came up with 明けましておめでとうございます. Is that even remotely close? I'd like something accurate, yet usable in a fairly general application where keigo and such are concerned.

明けましておめでとうございます is more formal. For something more informal (to friends and the like), you could say あけましておめでとう。
