Mystery game?

In the upper middle of Genre scenes of the twelve months there are people playing battledore, but there also seems to be a different game, with a battledore paddle on a string, balls, and a person with a basket.

Anyone have any idea what that game could be? It looks like fun in a dangerous way.

I can't for the life of me remember the name but I remember reading in the book Asian Games: The Art of Contest something about a field hockey variant that looks a bit like the one on the picture. Someone with the book or a better memory might be able to give you more information.

Thank-you Noriko. My ILL for Asian Games finally arrived, and it apparently is a game called "buriburi".

Frustratingly, I haven't been able to find any more information about it, but every little bit helps.
