I have a few ideas that I would like to start on soon before camping starts again next year. I have a few Suikan ideas and I'd like to do some stenciling so my family's garb looks a bit better. One project I would like to work on is a Daimon. I'd like to toss this one out to you folks because I just don't know how accurate or authentic this one will be. In a nutshell, my persona is 1200, back in the early days of Heraldry. I do not believe they really had Heraldry back then other than just finding a design they liked and used that to mark their troops. The mon that we are familiar with I believe came about in the 1100's but I don't think it was really solid until afterwards. This given, the project I want to do is a white Daimon with my branch's heraldic symbol on it. This would be the device in question wiki.antir.sca.org/images/1/1b/Lyonsmarche_Device.gifI'm planning on just the Lion and the arrow. I like this idea but I see many ways that this could be a bad idea. There are too many variables I don't feel too sure about, so do you folks think this would be a good project or toss it out the window?

Unless you are planning to enter it into a competition, don't worry too much about it. I mean, try to make it look good so that you'll enjoy wearing it, but decide if you're doing a true historical garment reproduction or a piece of garb. I have a kataginu painted with Bayeaux tapestry comets and when I wear it the locals love it even though it's not "authentic" Japanese. It's authentic SCAdian, is how I look at it. It looks like fun to me. You might want to change the representation to be a little more stylized if you want it to look "more authentic". Check out kamondb.com/animal/ for some ideas.

I made an attempt at making the lion more Japanese looking a while ago for a sashimono. I may give it a try once more. Thanks for the idea and perspective

This idea sounds fantastic. I love it when people use heraldry that isn't from anywhere near their persona on garments that are accurate for them in the sort of mismatched way that might have been seen if someone were dropped into a foreign culture. You're going to end up with a garment that is good for SCA use only, which is the only downside, but people will likely think it is wonderful when you are done!
