So, I just got access to an industrial laser cutting machine and a guy who will make cnc drawings for me. This triggered the urge to make japanese armour, in fact armours. We are a group of people who want to make armours suitable for martial art training and also adapted for SCA heavy.
I am looking for what kind of armour to make. Ideally it would be of hon kozane for as much as possible so armour of different sizes could be made from the same parts, adjusting size with number of plates.
- Producing multiple armours from the same pieces. "One size fits all" is the concept - As much as possible included in the drawing. Minimal amount of custom made pieces. - Material will be pre hardened and tempered carbon steel. "Spring steel" - Laquer will be spray on bedliner - Appearance should be as authentic as possible. Trying to avoid frankenarmour.
My detail knowledge if japanese armour is not enough to avoid the risk of mixing periods and making stupid mistakes, thats why I am asking for input. Any suggestions, pictures of authentic pieces, ideas, etc. are very welcome.
I would be happy to make guides, step by step pictures, share pattern and drawings, etc. along the way. We would be the first japanese group in Drachenwald (from what I know) so it would be awesome to get some good looking samurai on the field here.

The kote seems to be the hardest (along with the kabuto) to make "universal". Can kikko be used for kote?

I know some gentlemen here in our kingdom who did something similar with their bujinkan group. I've messaged Pallidus-dono to check in here and hopefully he can offer some suggestions.

Hello Xtracted, as I am thinking about having a ton of kozane made with a laser cutting machine, I am wondering how this idea of yours worked out. Have you gone for it?
