For everyone who benefited from Anthony Bryant's knowledge over the years this is a very sad time. I just read about his passing away on another forum. I would suggest that people copy his web site for personal future reference as there is not way of knowing how long it will be available. www.sengokudaimyo.com/katchu/katchu.html

Sensei will be greatly missed. I have shed countless tears since hearing of his passing on Facebook. We have all been touched by his kindness. We are all better for having him in our lives. Now there is a hole in our hearts. Let his legacy live on forever.

There is already talk over on the Armor Archives about saving his site. Just in case I'm going to copy everything there as well if there in case it needs to be re-created some day, but I think his legacy to us is safe.

I didn't realize the Tony who had sadly passed on was Anthony Bryant. I was initially saddened by his passing-in a rather generic sense, ie just knowing how a someone's death affects friends and families and the pain it brings them. Now that I know it was Anthony Bryant,I am even sadder!
I never had the pleasure of knowing him personally, but I have visited his wonderful website many times. I believe I still have my copy of the Creative Anachronist issue he authored. This is a great loss of a gentleman and fine scholar!
I do hope his website can be saved. It would be a great great tribute to him if it can and a crying shame if it cannot.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Saionji-Sensei, I appreciate your unvarnished portrayal.
As I told my lady last night, he was like my favorite strict professor.
Selfishly, I just wish I would be able hear if my continued efforts continue to "suck".

Saionji-Sensei, I appreciate your unvarnished portrayal. As I told my lady last night, he was like my favorite strict professor. Selfishly, I just wish I would be able hear if my continued efforts continue to "suck". Don't get me wrong, I was fond of the man, but his tendency to be unreachable when I could have used one stinkin' keyword for a search. Well, that's why I wrote it. Another funny aside: as you know, being told by Sensei that one "sucked" was envious praise. And for the longest time he resisted saying it to me. I'm sure he was afraid I'd take it the wrong way, though I did get a lukewarm "I have to hate you now." But I was gunning for suck. It wasn't FAIR! Was it only for armorers? I was writing poetry and making pretties and I didn't suck! FINALLY, I pried it out of him for the sugoroku box: tousando.proboards.com/thread/2653/saionjis-latest-project

I'm caught unaware by this message. It's been a while since I started studying Japanese armor; three years I believe. This message is not a happy one, to say the least. I will miss his experianced input in these forums.

I have copied and saved ALL of the Nihon Katchu Seisakuben. The PDFs, Pictures, and the script, down to the "Quick 'N Dirty Dou". If anybody needs anything from that manual, just contact me at cameronswobodaPADI@gmail.com

I also copied the site with all links intact. I have it saved as a zip file (15mb) for those who need it in the future.

We have copies. FYI, there are efforts underway to preserve the site. I'll be working with his cousin, Otagiri-dono, as well as folks from Samurai-Archives.com to try to find a way to keep it up and running.
There will probably be something done at Pennsic to commemorate him. Details are pending.
