I know some of y'all wear eboshi under your kabuto. Has anyone ever tried making a padded eboshi, like a nanban arming coif?
Just happen to be changing the padding on my kabuto, at the same time I am looking at making some eboshi, and it seemed like a good time to get some chocolate in the peanut butter.
I think there are still some gamboissed cuisses from my crusader kit around here somewhere, that would work will for this...

I'm not sure how that would work. If you wanted to do that, I would think that you could put a padded cap under your eboshi.

Well, I'm upgrading the foam liner in my kabuto, with 1/2' windrose foam. It used to be two thicknesses of 3/8" closed cell foam... I was thinking a linen eboshi lined with linen and a layer of bamboo batting, would provide a snug fit as well as wicking and cooling benefits.
I'll play around with it in the next week or so, and post the results.
Update: finished the padding in the kabuto, and it is snugger than I expected. At this point, a linen eboshi lined with another layer of linen may be all it needs to achieve optimal snugness. That should still provide a little benefit of wicking, cooling, and not being in direct contact with most of the foam.
Still, I have a scheme for a more formal "lacquered" eboshi... details in a week or so.
