Spectacular find in Takatori, believed to be of a meeting place/settlement for foreigners (most likely from the Korean peninsula). ajw.asahi.com/article/behind_news/social_affairs/AJ201508010019Of particular interest is that it appears that the site has an ondol - an under-floor heating approach that has been used in Korea for centuries (and makes for toasty toes in the winter)! This underscores all of the information from the Nihon Shoki and other sources about the importance of families of foreign descent in bringing skills, documents and techniques to Japan.
