Outside the circle I stand, barely visible Almost like a ghost I want to scream in protest But it would not reach your ears

A lurid sunrise Seems almost unreal as I Prepare for the day. Duty awaits, and perhaps A cup or two of hot tea.

Wagons crowd the road but the merchants will not wait. Market will open. I will fail if I am late. But the horse shies at this ice.

Outside a soft hiss Of tires on wet pavement hints At a cool night rain. Within, the sinuous strains Of old school jazz take me back.

A long day ends with new royalty and summer reign set on its path. How nice to help out, but many long days ahead.

Insistent rain taps And sputters at the window While I am elsewhere. Sometimes all you need is a Cup of tea and a good book.

Starting from fabric, and making garb for a King. So much like for myself, and yet not the same. The slightest things have meaning.

It was a fierce race: Above, a herd of storm clouds Cut across my road. The final sprint to the house Counts as my small victory,

Tanka challenge poems from this weekend (I was out of town) 4/8/16 Let me speak softly Graceful words, spun like sugar Delicate and sweet My winsome days are past me Words are my only weapons 4/9/16 This next poem was written during my judging at Calontir Kingdom A&S, as Her Excellency Countess Isabeau wanted to know why I didn't write more puns in my poetry, and suggested His Majesty of Calontir Matsunaga Kagetora as the topic. So I composed extempore: Oh look at those guns! Those magnificent arms! The pines, black and white! Majesty, your kingdom pines Lead us now into battle! (The picture below are the personal arms of His Majesty of Calontir. His actual arms are pretty awesome, too.) 4/10/16 Dogwoods and redbuds Have new-green leaves reflecting The dappled sunlight Amidst the tumbled boulders Dour Grimfells is smiling

Poised at the threshold, one more step and I will be proceeding nicely, but for now I wait to go. But for what am I waiting?

With rain come the weeds, Each springing up to replace The ones freshly plucked. Thus is a life of duty Filled with ever sprouting chores.

On this fine cold morn, I fear asking falls to me that if you want me to be part of this fine plan, please tell me what the plan is?

Within this circle Are galloping hoof beats And the rush of storms. Kaji Yama meets once more Sticks whirling to bring thunder.

Thanks for asking me before telling the students that class should start at eight o'clock in the morning. Who doesn't like waking up?

4/12
Holy communion I am called to the altar To taste the bitter bread Sacred blood spills from my lips As my song rises in praise
4/13
Behold the taxman Brandishing his mighty scythe Come to count the cost Bleeding Kansas covers her eyes Waiting for the blow to fall
