Warm breezes of spring Windows open all night long Comfort seems so rare Extremes seem to be the rule Restful sleep and morning birds

Late at night, raindrops steadily hammer every flat surface. Fits of coughing wake me up to hear my echo outside.

A year becomes ten Time moving ever faster The older I get But life is not a straight line Nor a race that I can win

The moon seems to smile As I leave the dojo and Bid my friends good night. Dare I imagine the roar Of our drumming did please her?

Nearly time for bed, but first I must oblige this challenge and meet my promise to compose daily. Commitment met, I may sleep.

It could be summer On this night of bright moonlight And sweet scented grass. I hear the laughter of friends Still selling in memory.

4/20
Invisible like A shadow in a shade tree That dull shade of grey Unseen, unheard, unnoticed Even a ghost can whisper
4/21
Today, tomorrow The day before yesterday None of it matters Only in this moment now Do we live our fragile lives

There is little time. So caught up in that one task, that this task suffers. Perhaps I should go back to writing first thing each morning.

No time between this poem and the previous, but the lifetime of a butterfly or a king, ended by the morning rain.

4/21 A brisk spring wind blows Cherry blossoms from the trees in a pink rainstorm, tumbling petals down the streets, collecting in pink puddles.
4/22 It is laundry day. Damp sheets hang on the close line. Fresh from the washer they billow in the warm wind, then billow over the bed.

The strain of a week yields to a pleasant evening. Pressure to work hard dissolves in a glass of wine. Today, a different list rules.

4/22
The kestrel shook free From her jesses and took wing Her spirit soaring May our prayers follow you there Into God's welcoming arms
4/23
Light on pale green leaves Softened by the twilight as A cardinal alights Raise your voice, prince of songbirds Lead us on this vigil mass

Something has set off The neighbor's dog two doors down: He is in full cry. At this hour, it's most likely A squirrel or the postman.

Light floods our chamber A night's rest comes to an end A new day begins The spring sun is warm and bright and burns away sleep's cool fog.
