One of the local PBS station's sub-channels has been broadcasting NHK-World for hours now. It is amazing just how good NHK programming is. I had somewhat forgotten just how good NHK is, and have not had much in the way of a direct comparison. Now, if I can just arrange for them to carry Sumo tournaments. The actual tournaments as broadcast on NHK and not a digest. Sumo is the only professional sport that I have ever followed. I would happily tune in at 3:00 AM. That is one of the few advantages of being a permanent casualty of the "Great Recession".

NHK World is also available to stream live online, with some programming on-demand. www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/tv/ includes instructions for watching on their website and using apps for iOS and Android platform devices. I was getting it locally on-air, but the signal has been bad lately, so I watch on my tablet these days. I will say that their sumo tournament highlights have gotten me hooked. The English commentary is accessible and the highlight shows often have short features on some aspect of the sport. Perfect for the novice viewer!
