ALL the Godzilla movies? I wish. We have hardly seen any of them dear mother, but I can remedy that.

I thought there were only 5 or 6 Godzilla movies, lol. I think I'm in for it.... However, I'd rather subject YOU to good Japanese films...... we'll talk, you and I...... E

IMDB lists 20 Godzilla movies, though I think you may be able to discount Bambi Meets Godzilla.

I think I saw 'Bambi Meets Godzilla'. It was awfully short.... just enough time for one big foot..... smack!.... The one I'm referring to is on..... geez.... senior brain freeze.... cripes.... one of the Godzilla movies, but now I'm wondering if Sam (Draco) didn't show me an animated short from some website. Only fifteen to go, y'think? Thanks, Raito-dono--- The kid has been into 'Gojira' since he got a little mechanized 'robot' one on his first birthday. And there's more..... He's also been into swords since he could walk and carry a stick at the same time, always wanting a duel. So, I'd rather he be a stick jock & reading Miyamoto Musashi's book (twice now) than hanging out at a video game mall with young hoodlum generation 2x wannabees..... Sleepy in Minneapolis..... R

Whazzat? Bambi hires Samurai Jack as a mercenary? 30+++ Godzilla movies? Omigoldarnit.... LOL, how many variations on a theme of 'big green whatchacallit wreaks havoc on Japan'? Good to have something amusing for a break while I'm trying to coerce the young bushi into non-recreational contact with water and soap.

I'm sure the SCA requires the guards on the fan. They're just that way, period or not. ;D
The Last Samurai was a lot of fun. Poor Eff can't watch it because of Tom's armor, but it's got a nice cast, amongst other things.

No, I can't watch it because the history and the story are crap. "Dances With Samurai" should have been the title.

Inability to suspend one's disbelief is a hazard & a handicap for educated and (allegedly, speaking personally) intelligent people..... especially when it comes to 'history or medicine according to the entertainment industry'. I knew this was creative history before I saw the film, and hadn't wanted to see the movive because I had heard so many derogatory remarks about the history, the plausability, the armor, and it goes on..... and I have always studiously steered away from Tom Cruise movies.
However, when I saw the DVD available for 9.99, I bit out of curiosity. And being a writer of fiction myself, this movie not being a medical one, and my general ignorance of period armor, among other things, allowed me to suspend my disbelief for the duration of the show. Then I watched the special features disc, where they spoke to most of the issues that I had heard complained about.... and indeed they repeatedly indicated there was never an intent to make a documentary or replicate history. The 'Last' Samurai they were referring to was Katsumoto.
So what am I blathering on about? Heck it's 0142 in the morning, I'm just in from work and trying to decompress after a really nasty shift.
Anyway, what I DO like about The Last Samurai is that there are, for me, many instances of the Japanese actors in the film that are martial artists in their 'real life'... and I watch their 'zanshin', their energy flow & exchanges, their balance.... and it helps me understand better in my mind that which my body needs to do.
OK, that being said..... I was going to ask if someone could kindly take the time to compare The red bogu that Cruise wore with something real and accurate so that I could get an armor lesson out of this.
I think I'll bop over to eBay and see what's shakin' over there.....

Gotta go with Hiraizumi-sensei on this one...
Implausible plot, and ahistorical.
Furthermore, it's 275 year after what I'm interested in.
Personal rant...
I do 1575 or therebouts. 1860 is nowhere near 1575.
It's like someone studying the Revolutionary War by watching The Sands Of Iwo Jima.

Ah, so you're saying there's no point for comparison, sensei?
I can cope.
Just wanted to get a beginning sense of the differences between TLS and 1876 accuracy to draw a bead back to period accuracy.
I'm a very visual learner; too bad I don't have one of those 3-D cgi graphics programs. I could build virtual armor one from pictures faster than I could get to a museum place physically to look at some. Even then, either way, I couldn't get my mitts on it to inspect closely.

Ah, so you're saying there's no point for comparison, sensei? Even I know the difference between looking at extant period armor vs. Hollywood versions of armor in 19th century usage. I'm a very visual learner; too bad I don't have one of those 3-D cgi graphics programs. I could build virtual armor one from pictures faster than I could get to a museum place physically to look at some. Even then, either way, I couldn't get my mitts on it to inspect closely. Start surfing museum websites, my dear! I was amazed at how many images I found of extant garments and fan papers for my little projects. Many of the museum websites are getting good about showing multiple views of objects, so you could luck out. Makiwara

I be surfin', ma'am ..... I must be sensory overloaded these days, trying to absorb too much at one time..... 'cause my brain just isn't locking in on period stuff.... I mean, yah, I can see the obvious difference between the traveling boxs and clamshell ..... but from there I'll 'get it' ...... eventually. Rizii

I must be sensory overloaded these days, trying to absorb too much at one time. Like armor. And clothing. And embroidery. And, and, and. I understand. It's all too easy to give in to one's inner ferret ("Whazzat! Whazzat! Ooh, shiny, whazzat!"). Don't be afraid to call upon your inner turtle. She's in there somewhere. Slow down and concentrate of one thing at a time. It'll be more likely to stick. ;-> Makiwara
