Ohayo, I was out shooting this morning. The snow was falling, and the temperature was a balmy 33 degrees... I put on the full armor, and tied an ebira with two dozen ya in it (actually 25 ya - but I always save the last one to take with me to the next world...) I bowed to the target, and took my position. I assumed warihiza, kneeling on a rather large deer fur I took last year in a bow hunt, and cured myself. I loosed twentyfour arrows as quickly as possible, loading from the ebira, and I must say - except for my kiai (EI!!) all was silent.
There is about ten inches of snow outside now, and it is still coming. The trees were lovely.
Only the sound of the creakling of the bow, the twang of the release, the thump of the shot hitting the target 28 meters away, and the resonance of the energy...
...and still the snow fell.
I bowed again to the target before advancing to retrieve my arrows. They all fell in a twelve inch circle...which also felt good. I bowed to the arrows thanking them, and was generally joyous.
It was a good shooting.
I enjoyed this morning's shooting very much, and thought I would share the experience.
I wish I had pictures, but some things are best left to description, I think.

I was out shooting this morning. The snow was falling, and the temperature was a balmy 33 degrees... Brrr. I was awakened by birdsong and sunlight peeping through the louvers. All the flowering trees are out and smell like heaven. We expect temperatures to crack the 70's today. It was a good shooting. I enjoyed this morning's shooting very much, and thought I would share the experience. Twenty four brothers Take wing but for an instant, Finding their true home. The target smiles through her tears, Pleased by such an offering. May the rest of your day be as beautiful. M.

I stop on my way to work, pick up my white oak 4' jo (note to self, need to get 6' staff) Walk into a narrow canyon off of Ute Pass (across from Williams canyon with the Cave of The Winds) Unlike most such, the floor of this one is flat half barren, half snow covered. On the slope in front of me is a hundred year old mine The slope behind me is a hundred foot sandstone cliff. The occasional yucca sticks out of the snow...
-(salute) Monkey Picks the Peach From Under the Leaf -(step, breathe) Monk Plays the Flute -(sidestep, breathe) Lady Opens the Door -(step, breathe) Green Dragon Comes out of the Cave -(step, breathe) Black Dragon Comes out of the Cave -(step, breathe, tap) Taoist Fishes from the Stream -(turn, step, breathe) ...
Did I tell you that I started learning Chinese staff?
(I have probably missed named of some of these) (Did I tell you that I dorked up my ankle last night at fighter practice and couldn't do kata this am?)

The snow falls silent... but the birds hear the sharp cry... as the arrow flies... crows offer up their squawking... not knowing beauty below.
The feathers that fly bound by silken threads of red can only go straight... the snow cannot stop their flight... target catching them gladly.

I also was awakened by the cold, went to work, to a church, and my face got sunburnt. If I could only have it better. The church was nice, as were the people running it. The attic was a bird nest heaven, but most are (no bats thankfully, also no bellfrie). Didn't curse much out of respect, but needed to repeadidly. My face still HURTS!!!!!!!!! And then wished my sister a Happy Birthday. What else could I ever need in life.
