So I pulled out volume 3 of The Diety and the Sword which is the only Katori Shinto Ryu publication that I know and checked out the spear kamae. One of their most common is not represented above. The six spear kata they show begin in what is represented above as in no kamae and then they lower the spear, keeping it horizontal, and tuck it under the rear (left) arm. This appears to be a way to brace the spear as the attacker makes his intial cut to clear the center line.
