Yes, Sir, there I was. Outlands/Dragonsspine war practice. It was about 32 deg F and gusting winds about 38 mph (although not so much where we were). And about 30 minutes into our melee I shouted Hold! in surprise. My spear wobbled weirdly in my hand. I found the break about 1.5-2 feet up from the butt. Mashed in on one side. In 20 years of fighting - many, many of them with spear - I had never broke one before. Near the butt too. How odd.
But I had a spare and fought with that for the next 30 minutes. We had a lengthy break and I wrapped tape around the break just to keep it from splintering until I can make a clean cut.
Then I realized that I had just wrapped my second spear. It was also smashed. Also a foot or two from the butt end.
WTF? Two spears broken?
Maybe it was something weird I had done in racking the spears, but my last long drive with them had been last Estrella .
When the combat restarted, I decided to sit it out. And then I saw Sir Haroun. With a glaive. Striking down to someone's thigh. And knew I would block that with the butt of my spear. Damn! That was it.
I have spent a year really shredding everything I thought I knew about spear and relearning from scratch. One of the things I have learned is how to block better with the spear. Block leg shots with my spear butt. And break really cold fiberglass. Ah well.
I recently figured out that my fiberglass jogekama-jumonji-yari is illegal due to the heavy cross bars. Time to tear that one apart for the pole.

I break1- 2 fiberglass spears a year. Didn't think about the cold effects. I know cold make abs plastic much easier to crack
