Uh, local marshall sez no to that construction. Split rattan is legal here (and in the Middle), but not in the way Hiroyuki suggests (it's done such that the splits are orthogonal to the edge of the weapon).

I have fought with weapons of a nature described by the various members of this board...currently I find fighting with a spear of 9 foot length and a single hook more usefull. I have no problem passing my weapon with the martials...I am able to hook shields with ease, and I can manouver the weapon quite well. I am not so worried about using the hook as a striking surface...but it is terribly effective in armpits and against sticky-outy-bits... I have fought soldiers where they have raised their sword arm to strike - and i inserted the hook behind their elbow and pulled to re-direct their shot out of my way...to follow up with a well directed piercing shot to the face, throat, or upper chest... I have hooked legs and pulled off-ballance opponents then pounced... Shields are mere child's-play...opening them and then leaping in... Choking up on the haft of the spear and punching in with the point...pulling their defences away and following up...all good times... thoughts... Date
