Well I read Effingham chapter on kabuto making a couple of time, but since I have not access to an actual kabuto I have a hard time figuring the differents part (kashimaki, Mabizashi, Hachi-tsuke byô, sukigaeshi...) and how they assemble to each other. Anyone can give me some more clues ? An explode view of these would really help....

Thanks Otagiri. I had seen these before, but what I would need is a view of these pieces unassembled... I'm still reading Eff chapter and I think it is becoming a little more clear in my head.... but their are still many questions.... Unfortunately their are still links to patterns in this chapter that do not link to the actual pattern (they are missing from the site) and I know Effingham is very busy so I don't want to bother him with this....
I was hoping that maybe Mykaru would take pictures of the differents pieces and assembling when he will make Effingham Kabuto. I don't know if he will read this thread.... ?

Mik, It will happen someday. As things stand I won't be doing any more wore on Eff's kabuto until New Years at the earliest.

Thanks Mykaru,
Well since my current project is morphing my old spangen into a kabuto looking helm, I'll do my best with the little knowledge I have. I still look forward to see pic of any pieces you will publish since it is very informative....

I'm actually finally getting around to constructing the shikoro on my kabuto, the question I have is, does anyone have the drilling pattern?

Does anyone happen to have a pattern for hineno-jikoro? Hiraizumi-sensei mentions one on his site but the link is missing. I've managed to come up with a pattern for etchu-jikoro with a little effort and some poster board, and I could probably figure out the curvature of the lames for a hineno, but I would like to be able to compare with someone more expereinced than I.

I've been trying to find the bloody thing for some time. I don't know where it went, and the hard copy doesn't seem to be locatable...
As to the "drilling pattern" -- what do you mean? The drilling pattern is the same as any other set of lames that are held together by lace...

Nah, the drilling pattern I can work out, esp. since it'll be kebiki laced anyway I was thinking more of the shape of the lames, with the curving arc down behind the neck and then back...it sorta reminds me of the neck drapes on some Chinese helmets. Which actually reminds me of something I wanted to ask you specifially. You mention the shita-jikoro hangs down nearly to the shoulders. I have only seen one picture of a shita-jikoro with the umbrella-style shikoro. Were there others that hung down past the shoulders and draped the same way the Chinese versions did?
