Very well, I will correct. SCA, Inc. rules says minimum of 16, with the various knigdoms making their own rules. Middle and Northshield allow full combat against a restricted list of opponents (other youth, youth marshall, parent) at 16. Calontir allows unrestricted full combat at 16, as do some other kingdoms. Boffer starts as young as 6 around here. Thanks, Raito! I knew someone would be able to give a better answer. Me, I'm just a decorative kuge girly girl. ;-> Makiwara

Your kingdom has a website: http//:www.sca-caid.org www.sca-caid.org/marshal/pubs.html is where you can find the handbook on armored fighting. Your kingdom has an authorization procedure that every fighter has to go through in order to be allowed to fight. Part of that process is being able to demonstrate to the marshal that you know the rules. The handbook will also tell you about armor and weapon standards. Makiwara

You are doing a good job at making this armor - it is nice seeing it come together. Just remember that the SCA, when you should ever get the chance to play, has very rigid armor restrictions. You can find the letter of the law, as it were, by looking for the martial information at: www.sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/armored/index.htmlIt will be good to talk to other fighting members and perhaps look at their armor to see sort of how things are done. The physics of force that apply to our form of combat are suprisingly strong - I have seen 16ga steel helmets positively creased with the force of a thrown shot...Heck - I have creased a few bowls in my time... So, for things like head gear and facial protection, you will need something sturdier for heavy weapons SCA combat. Your enthusiasm on this armoring project is outstanding, and I hope you keep up the good effort. Date Saburou Yukiie Yama Kaminari Ryu

i have reconsidered using this in battle if i ever get around to joining the SCA when im older. i think ill just use this one as more of a costume for like halloween or the renn faire or just to scare the crap outta the "tough" ppl at skool. i have also been considering a couple of careers dealing in weapons and armor, such as a japanese historian, a part time armorer, or a bladesmith. i still have quite some time to make up my mind tho.
