This is something that may be of interest to people in the SCA as well as Japanese swordsmanship forums: www.mafcenter.com/swordfest2005.htmIt is June 11th-12th, and I'll be up there demonstrating. There will apparently be at least one group doing a Western sword demo--I would recommend this as a good format to get out and discuss things with other groups, so if you know of anyone who is in the area who would be interested in either viewing or participating, go ahead and let the organizers know--I'm sure they'd be glad to have folks! It might not be a bad idea to suggest doing an SCA demo at something like this, as well, just to show them another kind of combat sport. -Ii

After-action report: Swordfest was a lot of fun, and I encourage people to come. It would be a great time for an SCA demo, or something similar--there are many different 'sword cousins' as one person put it, from koryu Japanese schools like Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo, Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo, Edo Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, and Tendo Ryu Naginatajutsu; other traditional arts such as Kendo and Atarashii Naginata; western arts such as Fencing and a demonstration of Sal Sanfertella's(sp?) work with western sword arts. There was also a Chinese jian and broadsword demonstration. Here's the link for it for those who might be interested in doing something like this next year. It isn't an SCA event, but who says that we only need to go play at SCA events? www.mafcenter.com/swordfest2005.htmI believe that an armoured combat demonstration of what the SCA does would fit right in, as this is meant to cover the entire spectrum of arts and what we do with the sword or other such weapons. They are also looking to possibly have some lectures next year, and are looking for people to talk. Maybe there could be a demonstration of Japanese armour if we could get the right people and suits together? -Ii

I don't believe so. You are Corey, then? It would be good to meet you.
