Well, Just got my last shipment of Noble Kozane today bringing my total ordered pieces up to 1900 and my total amount spent to $456.00, I am doing a Do Maru with 8 Kusazuri, my Nodawa, and my Sode out of them. God I hope it looks as good as it should for almost $500 Just thought I would post this up so people can get a rough estimate of what these plates cost.

Hi, I ordered a bag of 100 to play around with. How many scales are you allotting for the various pieces? Do, kusazuri, sode, etc? I was planning on building a do, kusazuri and ko-sode. I am 5'6" about 180. I am looking at the same number of plates?

Probably not. I am 6' 250lbs. I will post a total count for each piece once I am finished.

Thanks. The more I guesstimate, the more expensive this is getting !! I am currently waiting ( w/o patience) for UPS !! Then I can get my scales and I will have a better idea as well. Keep us updated.

Keep us updated. What I am doing is using a pattern I found at Tony's site (http://www.sengokudaimyo.com/katchu/index.html), and fitting it to myself. I'm then taking measurements of the length of the lames I need, and using my lacing experiement (which is in another thread), I'm estimate the scale count. When Otagiri was doing a do-maru, he estimated 1500 scales or so. (That is also on another thread here). Masahide

Unless you are in-period japanese size yourself plan on using between 1400 and 2000 kozane for do-maru or oyoroi. The kusuzuri use as many kozane as the do, and the sode will use almost half as many as the do! My suggestion is the buy them in 400 kozane batches (keeps the budget under control and Noble in constant production runs!) and re-order when you start getting low on loose scales.
I'm using the Jay Trim midi braid for my odoshi and it's almost perfect for the job. Pics posted in a couple weeks.
