Another armour question - will it ever stop?

Is there such a thing as a 5-plate dou made with rivetted lames? I was milling around Lowes, and they carry 12"x18" pieces of 16 ga mild steel...For just over $50 I can have the metal to make a dou! and sode! WOW!!!

P.S. - How do ya'll make the cool mon I see some people with? I've got GIMP 2.0, but my hand isn't steady enough to make that nice, fine white edge.
