Greetings, Cousins! In the interest of building kote that stand up to SCA punishment, would it be suitable to fit small grommets along the inside edges of the kote, then run cord through the grommets to close it? Arigatou!

I've never found that necessary. Buttonholes work well for me. Towards the end of the lifetime of the kote, they'll start to tear out, but by then the rest of it is as trashed, and needs replacement anyway.

I sew the ends of a length of shoe lace along each side of the fore-arm of the kote and then sew down that lace about every inch or so. That creates 8-10 'loops' that can then be used to run a lace through. ------------------------ Here is an edo or repro pic- click on it for a closeup

Nice pic (I thought those were yours, originally, and was highly impressed ). I tried using grommetts and I have found that they do have some problems. Mostly it is where I had problems putting them into the fabric, though. I have three layers of fabric on mine, and if I didn't go through all of them, or made the initial hole too big, it came out wonky. Over time, some of them have torn out, causing me more headaches, these days, than not. Just my two cents. -Ii

I thought of that not long after I posted, having had some experience making corsets and having the grommets come out of those. The buttonhole idea seems really good. I'm just concerned about the lace loops getting snagged on something and ripping out. - Fujiwara

Most grommets are more trouble than they're worth and if you don't set them exactly right, the damn things rip out. Instructions on making grommetless eyelet holes (round instead of slits like buttonholes) for structural engineering, er, I mean corsetry, can be found here: www.vertetsable.com/demos_eyeletholes.htmI think the solution Otagiri-dono posted (sewn-in lacing loops) is pretty clever and probably a bit easier than eyelets. Ok... That's just not working for me. I get a page of garbage characters. Do you need to be logged in or something? Masahide

Masahide,
Are you using Firefox? It does that to me as well. It loads fine with IE (ugh!!?).

Mykaru needs to put an JPG extension on the file. This is partly a browser problem and partly a server problem -- but IE is more fault tolerant in this regards.
If you right click on the link and save the file as "KoteB.jpg" you'll be able to see it on your local computer.

Odd, I modified it. Now it shows non-existent. I'll get this sorted somehow.

You only modified the link ... not the file itself. Click on this link and you will see most of your files end with .jpg. But Kote A B and C and Suneate A B C do not. The actual files need to be renamed on the server home.armourarchive.org/members/mykaru/

Ok, I finally got an FTP client installed here at home and edited the extensions. It should all work now.
(Of course NOW my scanner is down )
