This replica claims its basis on everyone's favorite movie, the only one Tom Cruise has starred in where they haven't had to go to extra lengths to make him look tall. cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3966736410There are similarities in color, lacing, and kanamono, but that's about it. What I'd like to know is whether or not the plates on the haidate are authentic. I find the pyramid-shaped plates in the kusari quite attractive, though I would guess it would be rare. Iyo-etchu is what I'm considering for my haidate, with plates in a matrix of kusari. I'm aiming to begin my SCA travels with retainer-grade armor for a low-ranking bushi (samurai, not ashigaru) during the end of the muromachi period. If the pyramid plates are within historical possibility, I may put them on my list of armor to make. Here's a pic in case the old auction vanishes.

I am brought back to the pyramid-shaped plates in question - I found similar plates in the images from Soma Noma-oi that were so kindly posted by Jo. www.pbase.com/joanseeuw/image/41050015Here they make the upper arm to Kote. Can anyone tell me if these plates are an Edo period creation, or would they have existed in late Muromachi?

That is kinda Edo, yeah. Effingham lol, isnt EVERYTHING edo at one point? the edo armorers were(as far as my impression has been) basically insane, working in every imaginable style and type, i think i even saw a do made of kikko on effingham's site. crazy stuff, but there were sort of 'armorer renaissances' in those times, and they tried to make the most ADD armor ever. they did a good job.
