I meat a fellow at the event I went to this weekend who does Japanese persona..
He was telling me about how the Japanese would use European armour incorporated in to thier suits.. I knew enough from Effingham's site to carry on a decent conversation.. He mentioned that he saw a back point bascinet that had been turned around, had the face covered and then had the back of the helm cut away to form the face...
I was curious if anyone else had seen this as well...

Given that bascinets had been out of use in Europe for almost 150 years, it's extremely unlikely.
It sounds to me like he was misinterpreting something.

Well, yes, I've seen a backward bascinet kabuto in the SCA. It turned out to be a rather funky momonari. BUt it was built from the ground up for that purpose. It just happened that that pattern, turned artound, gave the desired shape.

I think your friend has confused the cabasset with a bascinet. Bascinet Cabasset Namban (foreign) armour using a cabasset. This does match your friends general comment that some Japanese armours incoporated Spanish pieces (just not the bascinet). Momonari Kabuto - possibly influenced by Spanish helms.
