That particular lace is simply nylon paracord, available at most army surplus stores, however you might want to give the guys at laces for less ( www.lacesforless.com ) a try. Their athletic lace comes in a varity of colors, looks good, and holds up to punishment rather well.

ive seen laces for less before but now that i calculate their prices vs. noble plastic's prices, theirs wins by a little less than $2. the only problem is that they dont carry gold lacing i guess the yellopw will have to do...darn, theydont carry yellow in the wide lace either.

The standard size athletic lace is working quite nicely on my project, its all a matter of how big you drill your holes or how your spacing works out. Check Eff's site for methods on holl drilling and spacing, I know it helped me more than once.

my holes are normally 1/8" becauce i like the way it looks, but i might just order one thing of gold lace from noble plastics and get the red from laces for less

If you do, then (1) the lacing will be different widths -- LFL is 3/8", NP is 1/4" -- and (2) the lacing won't match in material and weave.
Ick.

yea, but i was planing on getting the 5/8" widelace for the red lace which would do the holding of the plates together. i was just going to use the gold for hte bottom of all the "dangly bits". would this still work?

Not really.
One is a flat, cotton-like lace. The other is 100% nylon tube of a different width. Two totally different looking laces. It won't be pretty.
I use para-cord where cord is required ... never for lace.

Otagiri, Just curious as to where you would use paracord... I have some that I bought before I realized that it was too narrow for most of my requirements... Would like to be able to use it seeing as Iwent through all of the trouble of procuring it Otherwise, I am now in possession of 1oo feet of Hojo-jutsu cord

Guests (anyone not logged in) can type in any username they desire ... so beware the possibility of spoofing when you see 'guest' names.
You can use paracord for the shitagarami lacing (the bottom set of holes on the kozane). It is also good for haitdate scales. I use it for the lacing at the watagami (takahimo) and for the cord to hold the dou (hiki-awase).
I often pull the "core nylon strands" (the internal white strands) out and only use the outer layer. The cord lays flatter when you do this.

LFL isn't that cheap. I get the same stuff for less than I calculate from their site. Anyway, for the 3/8" stuff, I use 1/8" holes, except where 2 laces run through the same hole, then I use 5/32. It keeps things tight.
I hope to have pictures by the end of the week of the latest project, which is a more-or-less complete suit made as a gift for someone. It uses 3/8 pretty much everywhere, laced gold and red. And I might even get the kabuto done, now that the welder is fixed.
