I think i have an idea for sca legal tekko... Can i get some links so that i can see some period examples and do more research on the subject.
I remember seeing (that's why i'm asking for help because my memory is not that good) Tekko that had 2 lames attached to the main plate on the back of the hand with maille.
based on my memory
Form 3 plates so that they cover the back of your hand, up to your first knuckle and past the points of your fingers (this will give you a much larger final lame than i remember seeing). Assemble with wnough maille that you can grip that haft of a weapon. curve 2 plates so that they match the curve of your knuckles. extend them so that they ectend beyound your palm. place them under the mail and plate tekko. Hopefully when you squeeze that haft of a weapon it will lift the plates off of your hand and transfer force to the rattan...
does this sound doable or am i completely nuts

Click above to get a bigger picture. I've linked this picture from Stone's Glossary because it shows the only Japanese articulated gauntlet (#5,11) that I have seen. Not sure if that answers your question, though.

Stone's book is a great pictoral collection of items, both commonplace and strange, but I would take it with a grain of salt especially if using it as a source for documentation.
There are many things in it that are mis-attributed, either in country, name, or time-period (or a combination of the three. Strangely western items are more likely to be mis represented than the Japanese items)
The Japanese items are fairly accurately categorized, but there are some glaring examples of Edo period items being attributed as much earlier. Also many of the photographs come from collections of "oddities" and unique or near unique items. A good book, and an excellent pictorial resource, just use it sparingly when citing it as documentation.

Well... Here's my prototype! Now, I've cut splints for my suneate, and lames for my sode, but other than that and some fabric backing, I have no armor experience. So what do I do? I try to design gauntlets. The design is based loosely on Japanese armor elements. They incorporate sugake odoshi (though the lames are upside down, which is something I've been considering reversing depending on the movement. That's a football forearm pad they are worn over, meaning only the finger lames will have to be padded. The finger lames are not yet complete (I'm planning on 2 fingers, though a single lame is still very possible). One benefit of using lacing over rivets is that the thumb is fully articulated and can move naturally. These are my first attempt at making gauntlets, and I'll be experimenting with the design until it's good, or until I have to redesign completely... I'll keep you posted. If any of you have any recommendations, please let me know! These are a prototype, after all, and I hope to grow closer and closer to something that looks like it might have once been Japanese.
