much Kudos, your Sode look good especially compared to mine. How is the paint holding out with that primer is it sticking or is it scratching right off at the lightest of touches??

Thanks
as to the paint - the only place it comes off easy is where the plastic was already smooth...
all my tests indicat ethat it shouldstay in place.. its not just rubbing off
of course the true test will be when people start whackign it with sticks and that wont happen for another month or so (cause I need to finish the armour dou, the haidate, the kote, my guatnlets and then get a helmet! Will let you know

Effingham-Dono - thank you, you are too kind, I am my own biggest critic I must say I am learning some huge lessons as part of this project. I am a big believer that the only way to learn something is to "do" it yourself! Here are the update pics the leather sections are being used as the hinges and also they will act to hide some padding - specifically over my hip bones and my upper ribs just under my arms (I do not possess a great deal of natural padding!) And I was using what I had available to me. I was goign to use small zip ties to lock it all in place but I found some imitation sinew that I had from years ago, and it works well so far If I can find some of that door edging stuff here in Australia I will use a little on the top pieces just to make it look more finished Mykaru-Dono - your note about making hats again has got me bouncing like my 10 year old son on a red cordial rush! I dont know if you are taking requests but if you are, please let me know... as I would happily pay for your talent to make a unique kabuto for me to wear - I would be honoured wearing one of yours! Wow, things are really starting to shape up well. How does it look on you?
Only nitpick: I'm not sure you have enough holes for the suspensory lacing for the kusazuri.

the rear panels of the haramaki dou are complete - pics will follow I am hoping to get some of that door edging for the watagami and the other top panels - another thing for tomorrow
Im pretty sure it fits fine as it was patterned all the way thru the process for me to wear with my gambeson under it.... but there will need to be some final fitting
I still need to figure the lengths of ties and frogs for the shoulder straps and for the cowards plate
as to the kusazuri well I am sticking to sugake lacing at the moment - even for suspensory lacing - I believe I read Effingham-donos site to say that it did get doen that way sometimes I am still in the process of lacing the kusazuri and also adding more hole s(just like I did with the sode) to give 2 rows of the red crosses
and still on the project list are the haidate and kote
the fighters at Bacchus Woods here in Brisbane are getting almost as eager as I am to get into full armour and start playing!
pics tomorrow

Ok so here is a pic of the kit so far - on a not so flattering model (it was taken at 1 in the morning!) A question first tho - the guruwa lames are such that if I have them over the front of the do, they ar ein a position being forced outwards, but if they are under the front of the do they sit fine - any thoughts on this? I recall seeing something on Effingham - dono's site about it being ok to wear under the do Yes there are a couple of make shift bits till I get it all done If you are wondering what is under it, well its football padding - covers the shoulders, the collar bone, the upper arms, the chest front and the shoulder blades. At the back I have a motorcycle spine protector (amusingly named by my wife as my "ninja tutrle shell"). I found that the gambeson under the kit is damned hot and doesnt cover that much more than the padding and the spine - I will be making kote to cover it up anyways - and of course hakama (for the moment I have an old martial arts gi to wear on top)

First - thanks to everyone who has helped me so far - and especially the moral support - I have spent so much time looking at this project that I am barely sure what I am looking at anymore and you guys remind me that its cool I have spent so much time doing this project that it will simply be a relief to have it finished! Ok another update I literally have blisters from lacing and making toggles and pushing lacing through small holes - but I think its worth it The sode are not in place as it is late and my brain (and fingers) simply were not up to the task of fitting the toggles for the sode - I figure they will also require a little more ingenuity as well to ensure that the sode sit just right . I am not yet sure if the sode will need arm bands to hold them in place (just for SCA combat) - any ideas / experiences folks? Once the sode are attached then I will put the kit on over my training uniform so it looks a little more correct Then the next projects start - padding the dou!, haidate, finishing my clamshell gauntlets and gloves, some vambraces, my knees and elbows anfd then the quest for a helm! (and then some combat hakama!) and then some garb!
