Somehow I thought you were going to make a karaginu or uchiki out of that.
The whole cross-dressing thing totally zinged past me....
Sigh. Brainfarts.

In orange? Hitatare, sensei. Hit. A. Ta. Re. Besides, the whole cross-dressing thing has been going on for months. Nagamochi started it. Then I started thinking about it because people keep asking me how to make men's hakama and I'd never made them. Then the electronic wolf whistles started over the whole concept.... S.

Weirder things have happened. Sigh. I've never really understood the whole cross-dressing thing, myself -- although one sees it often enough even in the Japanese re-enactment groups. But y'know, I never see guys dressing up in karaginu-mo. But I've seen lotsa chix in kariginu and ho. Edward de la At least I have the legs for a nagabakama

Hey Big Sis,
Just wanted to say the whole hitatare out fit looks sumptuous and wonderful. Keep up the great work.
Though now I've got the itch to make a mo, even if I'm not good with paints. Or was the imagery on a mo embroidered?
Congratulations, Nagamochi

Thanks, darlin'.
IIRC, embroidery exists fairly early, then vanishes for several centuries. There are translations of Heian literature in which the word 'embroidery' gets used, but I seem to recall Effingham-sensei telling me this was a mistranslation. I DO remember a passage in Murasaki's diary referring to silver leaf decoration on mo.

Great, silver leaf! Even more champagne tastes on a kool-aid budget. Oh, well. Ok, now to turn the spot light back on you, Saionji-hime, er, -dono.

Great, silver leaf! Even more champagne tastes on a kool-aid budget. I couldn't bear to try to do gold leaf on silk either! That's what metallic fabric paint is for. S.

I was referring to onna-gata, not Halloween in the Folsom. ;->

I *was* thinking about the Folsom. (Hey, all us Bay Area denizens know the spots, huh? <G>)

Kinda hard not to when it's so well publicized. Whereabouts were you when you lived out here?

I lived in Eilis' place in Berkeley for about four months, then I got an apartment in Richmond (not to be confused with "THE Richmond").
