Oddly enough, I'm about halfway done with a late-period kabuto that I'm making for sale. I haven't built a kabuto in twenty years, so I'm just hoping that it turns out all right. I've finished an eight-plate bowl, the inside skirting, and the grill. I'm thinking of putting on four or five shikoro plates, and I'm toying with the idea of making it with removable kuwagata and fukigaiishi.
It should be done in a week or two, and I'll post some photos when I'm finished.

with all due respect to rattanoni for having first dibs, if s/he isn't interested, I may well be, depending on the price. *gomen nasai for hijacking.*

i have seen his web site and yes his work is out standing.
But it has been my experance that internet armorys are ..fickle.. as i have worked in an amory before i compleatly understand.
I would just rather buy, or put money on , an already finished helm. and not have the stresses of having to wait for a compleated project.on top of all the other stuff that has to go into it.
But thank you.
And as for "dibs" thank you..and i look forward to seeing it.Till then..nothing is concreat.

"fickle" is a kinder word than I would use for some. Unless something is a pure custom I wouldn't be able to sell to someone else, I take no deposits. Payment is on completion only, if that relieves any of your misgivings.

My coment was nothing directed at any one person or persons.
I have just know too many people who buy armor on line..and end up waiting for months some times as long as a year..
And as i stated. having worked in an armory my self i under stand both the furstrations and heart aches .
and im kinda picky..i guess.. i like to be touchy feely withany armors i buy any more.
please no offence.

I have to agree with Rattanoni. A good deal of armorers are unrelable, and the wait times can be ridiculous. I waited 3 1/2 years for a kabuto that I couldn't get my head into. (The armorer's comment? "Well, at least you've got a nice display piece.")
The bad armorers are even worse. 'Samurai-ish' armor looks like crap and tends to be even worse to use. I'm reminded of a Frenchman in the 1700's commenting on English women's shoes - "They look as if they had been made by someone who often heard shoes described, but had never actually seen any." This is one of the reasons why I make my squires build their own armor.

I'll measure it and get back to you. But I wear a 7 3/8ths hat, if it's any help.

Was this made from the Effingham patterns or did you use your own? If they are your own would you be willing to share...

No, I didn't use Effingham's pattern. I don't like using other peoples' work, and prefer to make everything myself.
As for a pattern - this is kind of embarrassing, but there isn't one. I cut out a piece that looks about right, then hammer and trim it, hammer and trim it... There is a pattern for the shikoro, but it's not quite right, and I had to fudge it while I was cutting it out.
I'll try to remember to make a pattern when I build the next one, but I tend to get involved and forget things. No promises, but I'll try.
Really, though, drafting out a pattern for this kind of thing really isn't that hard. If you make a form out of styrofoam for the bowl, you should have no trouble figuring out the shape of the pieces. Everything after that is a piece of cake.

You mean you couldn't use the first sgt's head? Not like he would feel or miss anything.
