I would like to thank the esteemed proginator of this forum, Otagiri-dono for being a wonderful guest of the Yama Kaminari, and would also like to thank him for sharing his time between his own kingdom and our fighting group on the battlefields of Pennsic. In the pic noted above you can see him going fearlessly into battle along side us.
Otagiri-dono is a fine combatant, an energetic sumo wrestler, an honorable samurai, and one hell of a kara-oke singer. He helped to place first in a team effort at Kara Oke night at the YK encampment.
It was good to meet him, as well as Takeda-dono, Sir Raito, and many many others. I am sorry I cannot play the biwa, koto, or any other stringed instrament, though...
I would also like to thank tha Samurai formerly known as Momochi for taking the Date family name, and to thank him for the fine service he provided to me and to the Clan.
My beloved Squire Brother and Great Great grand son Toshinobu-dono led us on the field this year, and it was an honor serving under his direction. That poor man has more bruises on him than any man has a right to even try for...and he earned every one of them...
Battle stories and pics forthcoming, as soon as I find the camera! Elder Date

My apologies, Furafura-hime (Is it Saionji? I'm liking that more and more). Date Saburou -dono has somewhat misrepresented my skills. I'm rather certain that it would be closer to the mark to say that I am an 'ineffective sumo-wrestler' and that I am a 'hellish kara-oke singer'.

All right, here's a brief war story--
For the third field battle I took my yumi instead of my katana. There was a hold, and in the opposing line I saw a spearman wearing a lorica segmentata. The call 'rise' was made, and I held my yumi high, the arrow paralell to the ground. 'Make ready' was called, and I slowly lowered the bow, drawing it fully. At 'lay on' I released, and my arrow struck cleanly in the center of his chest. And he took it, to my surprise.
Then as I was fumbling to nock another arrow, I was killed by a mongol (no lie) with a polearm.

If it's sticking? Then yes. ;D It's definitely growing on me.
I suspect enthusiasm counts for much.
Jehanne says to tell you that she knows several people who were convinced they were tone deaf and was able to help them learn how to hear pitch. One of them has significant hearing loss. For her to be anywhere NEAR pitch 30% of the time is a major achievement.
On the other hand, kara-oke is supposed to be hellish, is it not?
BTW, I think I FOUND a furafura while vacuuming behind the computer desk in Gaius' room.....

It was good to meet him... Sir Raito... It may possibly have been Sir Saito of Calontir, especially if you met him down at Tengusanji at the sake party

Definitely a fun Pennsic. First week was hot, but the second week was just about what I would like Pennsic to be--perhaps on the warm side, but with just enough light rain and very gentle winds. I was down with Takeda-dono, Mokurai-bozu, Clan Kuji and the rest of our friends down at Willow Point. It was great to see Date-dono, and I had a chance to watch him and the rest of Yama Kaminari as they rushed around nailing fighters like a swordsmith and his apprentice hammering upon a piece of steel in the forge. It was great to see Otagiri-dono, and Takeda-dono had a chance to stand guard at Atlantian royal in kariginu with bow and sword slung tachi-style. Somewhere there are pictures. Oh, and there were wise words from a wandering yamabushi on how to deal with ninja: we should play their game and acknowledge the dream that they are playing. Therefore, make sure that you do NOT see them when they are dressed up in black jammies. After all, they are being invisible. This may, of course, mean that you might accidentally stumble into them once in a while. This is only natural, and be sure not to apologize or acknowledge them. Instead, simply look around confused, shrug, and move on.... -Ii

Actually you are correct, and I offer humble appologies for the name mistake. I met him briefly on the battlefield, and did not talk long as it was between battles... Gomen Date Saburou

Speaking of puppeters, I mentioned the idea of a bunraku octopus as hatched by some members on here to a good friend of mine, and she's damn near running with it. Long story short: if we build it, will you help? ? Better question... what will the Ohio turnpike cop be thinking when he pulls us over with the blasted thing strapped to our roof, headed TOWARDS the ocean? Then again, if by doing so I'm interfering in a personal idea, I'm more than happy to let it be. Just a thought, Nagamochi

Well, I did think of it for the YK as a project for our former Pennsic neighbors, the "RavenSpittle" and was hoping to attack them next Pennsic... Date Saburou
