Otagiri-dono Traditionally, there are several battles sheduled for the last saturday, as well as archery and many "closing courts"... It used to be that people stayed all saturday and packed out sunday (which YK does) but a great many people leave that last saturday. Once, a whole kingdom, who shall remainless but who was getting their collective butts wooped, up and left before closing courts...many packed out during the final battles...and that is rather bad form IMHO. That notwithstanding, people are still somewhat fresh the first weekend, and there is good shopping, shooting and sometimes fighting...so I guess it depends on which is more suited to you... Date, who is scheduled to go early the 12th, but may go about three days earlier...I only live a half hour from Pennsic after all...heh heh heh.

Which airport makes the most sense? Pittsburgh?
So flying in on Sat 13 and flying out Sun 21 is a reasonable choice?
Any insight into shuttle services? Cost?

If you fly into PGH it is about (depending on traffic) an hour to 1 1/2 or so straight up I-79...no shuttles to Pennsic, sadly but you can rent cars there. As for the timing, that seems to work best for most people... You could also try Erie Int'l Airport - It is an hour to 1 1/2 north of Pennsic on I-79, but may be cheaper to fly into than PGH. Again, no shuttle, but rental cars.

No commercial shuttles, true, but I bet if you asked around you could find somebody to rideshare with.

Well seeing as I have now blown my whole "I WILL get to Pennsic before I turn 35" mantra by another year, it looks like, once again, Pennsic is beyond my means. Otagiri-dono (and, indeed all else on the list going to Pennsic) I trust you will all enjoy, bear yourselves with honour and (mayhap) raise a small)medium and large) glass of something fermented to the north east where I will be slaving away at the salt-mines-that-is-the-media. Next year, darn it.. . .if it kills me, I'm going! Enjoy yourselves, take pictures and share names of any good Japanese-item related vendors Takamori

To query: Might anyone going to Pennsic be capable of making a pick-up and drop-off of one lowly namban in Madison, WI? I had a whole trip planned with a good friend and his car, but unfortunately his plans have fallen through. So here I am, all garb-ed up and nowhere to go! To bribe: I'm willing to throw a good chunk of cash at you for gas and possibly food consumed on-road. My supplies I bring are minimal: a basket, a bag, a cooler, and me. So I'll be quite compact. I also am willing to do the lion's share of the driving, and I know how to drive stick if need be. Anyone from Calontir or further west feeling tempted yet.

Nagamochi-dono, you'd probably have better luck asking around the I90/94 corridor. Calontir isn't convenient to Jararvellir.

Unless of course my most honorable prince, and soon to be king, has room to spare in his royal envoy??

Beats Disneyland. ;-> (I think. Actually, I've never BEEN to Disneyland.) I have been to both, many years ago, courtesy of my Knight. It is my failing that I have not been able to take that favour and pay it forward.
