I think I'm the first one back from Estrella so I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to Rising Sun this year. I'm mad at my self because I was in such a rush to set up, fight, rest, fight, rest, and pack up I didn't get a picture of all of us together. I hope everyone enjoyed Estrella as much as I did this year and hope to do it again next year! Now I need to unpack my car...

Home safely and very tired. Had a great time with everyone and got good turnouts for all my classes.
Made a couple of early side trips on the way home today since I left site yesterday: sunrise over the Salton Sea and then took a roundabout "detour" through Joshua Tree National Park before heading home. Both were totally worth it and I'll post links to my Flickr account if anyone cares to see what I shot.
Er, why no, I didn't take any pictures at Estrella. It just sort of worked out that way.

What? How can I live vicariously through you if you don’t have pictures?
But seriously, I hope you had an awesome time. Some day I will make the trip, it sounds like an excellent event.

I don't particularly like viewing my medieval world through an LCD screen, I'd rather be living in it. ;-D Estrella is smaller than Pennsic and of shorter duration. Weather can be anything from brilliantly sunny and warm during the day to bitterly cold at night, and as it's February, you run the risk of having to deal with winter rains or winds (the site is a working farm with very little shelter from the wind, in particular). That said, it is a good time and a great opportunity to meet some like-minded maniacs. If you want to vicariously enjoy sunrise on the Salton Sea and a morning jaunt through Joshua Tree, however, please to be going here: www.flickr.com/photos/70104978@N00/sets/72157623320283961/www.flickr.com/photos/70104978@N00/sets/72157623444869794/

We had two visitors from the Far West at Rising Sun on Friday evening, Ludmilla Karchevenvna and Bran de Bruce. Photo here www.flickr.com/photos/pyrogal/4363598403/in/set-72157623326445911/They presented us with a staggering amount of omiyage in the form of very good sake that we were told was "holy water" produced by a temple, green tea cake and a packet of genmaicha. Conversation was a bit stilted due to language limitations all around, but there was much smiling, and a fair bit of sake consumption. I am resolved to try to learn a bit of conversational Japanese by next year so there aren't so many awkward silences.
