It is just past Kawasaki station on the Keihin-Tohoku line headed towards Shinagawa (I think it was past Kawasaki, it might have been just past Kamata--I can't quite recall). I just remember seeing it the first time and cursing my digital camera for taking too long to come online. On the way back I couldn't remember what stop it was, so I kept waiting to try to catch it again.
So, anyone think we could get away with something like that for a Pennsic (or Estrella) gate project?

Just a heads up, I should have a size and placement of our encampment sometime next week. I will post it as soon as I get it.

I have received a request from someone to help him with some sewing basics at the war. Anybody else interested in a sewing circle in camp? Machine sewing would be Right Out, but hand-sewing is just the thing for sitting around and shooting the breeze over. Do you want to work on new clothing or works in progress? Do you need someone to take your measurements? Should I pack my textile books for folks to geek over?

Noble Cousins!
Greetings from Solveig! I believe that an "all Japanese" encampment is unnecessarily exclusionary and rather ahistoric. Rather, I would hope that you aim for a Japanese themed encampment. Then you could easily have Buddhist scholars from as far West as Iran and even possibly a few Iberian Jesuits and Franciscans squabeling with each other.

Given that there will be an Anglo Norman with a French monkey sharing MY tent (not to mention the inside of my brain), and Yagyu-dono's lovely Egyptian wife, it's very definitely not "all Japanese!"
The point of this experiment is not to be exclusionary, but to try to show Asian culture in a (gasp) positive light. I cannot imagine how you came to the conclusion that this would be Japanese only or exclusionary.

I was responding to the wording of the poll question:I think that having a more or less Japanese encampment which shows "Asian culture in a (gasp) positive light" is a wonderful idea.

I would enjoy very much the chance to geek over your textile books Saionji-dono. And yes i would love to do the sewing circle also. Would be a blast to have an "Estrella War" kimono, as in i made it at estrella. WHo knows, this could become something of a tradition. Make a kimono every war. =D

Right then. I normally DO pack a sewing kit of some sort - in fact, this past Pennsic, my campmates got more use out of it than I did, so it got left in the camp "living room". I've also just offered the collegium folks a class on medieval European music and one on women's literature from our period in Japan. More on this when I get a confirmation that they want 'em.
