All I know at this point is that we're calling it "Rising Sun" and we'll be with the Barony of Atenveldt. I'm sure Yagyu-dono will let us know more as he finds it out.

That narrows it down enough to make me happy. If anything interesting will be happening at Rising Sun, I'd definitely appreciate it being posted on the beard. I'm sure it will be, but I'm poking at you anyway. *poke* *poke* Ujimoto

At this point I am just waiting on the Baronial Land Office to give me a map of the placement of the camp and they are waiting on the Kingdom land office to do the same for them. As soon as I get that I will post it here so everyone will know where we are. At this point the only official thing that I think we will be doing is a Japanese New Year celebration (or Oshogatsu) on Thursday. We will have more details of that as we get closer to the event.

Well it is the beginning of January so it is probably time to start putting the final touches on the plans for the encampment. Unfortunately I have just taken a cut in pay at work and I may be loosing my job after January 15th (dang housing market) so I am having to cut back on the amount of decorations that I was planning on bringing, but here is a list of things that I am bring that is for encampment use...
2 10x10 shade pavilions. 1 10x13 cabin tent for a pantry/kitchen tent 2 card tables 1 4x6 banquet table 5 chairs 2 fire pits 1 Gate for the encampment 2 6x10 canvas wall for the encampment (I may get more later if I get the opportunity) 4 banner pole holders (portable holes) 1 small camping stove 1 camping BBQ (I have a home propane grill that if every one says that it would help I am willing to throw in the trailer) 15 or more paper lanterns (I know that they are not period but they do help the ambiance)
If you planning on bringing anything that is going to be for encampment use, just post it here with the day that you are planning to be out, and at the end of the month I will make a master list and post it here as well. If anyone has fabric that we can cover some of these items with to make it look more Asian it will be welcomed!
I am also planning on coming out on Tuesday and am willing to cook dinner for the encampment on Tues., Weds., and Thursday...
Tuesday - Burgers, hotdogs Wednesday - Beef and Chicken on a stick Thursday - Stir Fry
Those are really easy and when I cook them I tend to cook for an army anyway so why not just feed everyone. If anyone wants to cook other days go right on ahead, and if not then we can just fend for ourselves those days and I will still volunteer my cooking equipment. Hopefully this will help some of you coming from out of state not have to drag as much stuff. ;D
As soon as I get a map back from the Barony I will post it so everyone can see where we are going to be.

I can contribute a second propane stove and I have the better part of a case of propane bottles I would rather use up than have sitting in my attic.
I'm working on a pair of banners and poles for the gate area.
I'm also taking the lead on prep for the Thursday night party. Observations of how bovil & KR's Twelfth Night party went in terms of consumables give me a good idea of how much to shop for in terms of refreshments, and what people seemed to like. If people are interested in variety as opposed to quantity, I can make a point of looking for 350 ml bottles of different sakes to taste. What else are field trips to Asian markets for, after all?
More as I think of it.

Had some good shopping karma when I went out today to pick up some bamboo for banner poles. I found two very nice iron lanterns in sort of a pagoda shape that can take either live or LED candles.

Well I now have the dimensions of our little part of the war, as well as where we are in relation to the other encampments in the Barony. How that reflects on or position on the site as a hole...
Well I'm a little fuzzy on that, but if the barony is in the same place it was last year then we will be very close to the reserved parking lot. We are second in from the farthest western encampment on the border of the Atenveldt camping area. We have a camp site that is roughly 27' x 83', so with those dimensions in mind I will be trying to put together a camp map for us this weekend and I will post a link to it here.
Thanks to everyone for their patience in this!

ABSOLUTELY!
Although I won't be camping at Rising Sun, it will be nice to have a place to visit and meet other SCANihonjin.

A few more sleeps till Estrella!!! (OK coupla weeks but let me get into the mood)
I'm sat in another bloody blizzard....praying for no snow on Feb 12th when I fly out. (sacrificing small fuzzy things left right and centre to appease the weather gods.)
At Estrella, I'll be with my knight durinh the days and camping with HRMs and HRHs of the East in the evenings....whenever I can sneak away I'll be headed for the nihonjin encampment.
Anyone have any requests for surprise goodies/guest-gifts they'd like?
Sakurai no man I'm tired of snow

I'm sat in another bloody blizzard....praying for no snow on Feb 12th when I fly out. (sacrificing small fuzzy things left right and centre to appease the weather gods.) While we didn't actually get snow right here on this very spot, I-5 has been closed twice this week due to heavy weather over the Tejon Pass. My prayers have mostly consisted of "Dump what you like now, O Lord and Creator, just as long as we have nice weather for Estrella...." Unless you're planning a layover in New Jersey that involves properly made, bad-for-you pizza? I don't know. Are there any specialties from your locale that we might not be aware of? Holy moly, I just looked 'em up and just realized that Ice is King of the East right now. Awesome!

Those that came to Estrella last year will remember that the site had no grass. Well that was because at the end of December, beginning of January we had over two weeks of below freezing temperatures that basically froze the budding grass before it could grow.
Well this year we didn't have a freeze so I am hoping for grass. Yeah!

Anyone have any requests for surprise goodies/guest-gifts they'd like? Sakurai no man I'm tired of snow Thank you for the offer Sakurai-dono, and while I can think of nothing for myself personally, bringing something sweet to the Thursday get together would probably please everyone. ;D And if you are tired of the snow then just keep thinking about Sunny Atenveldt! (now that I have said that I have jinxed us to have rain all week.) I have a preliminary map of the encampment done, just a rough so we can change anything that may be incorrect. I will post it when I get home from work this evening as well as the location map that I just received from the Barony showing where we will be in relation to everything else on site.

Allrighty here is the rough of the layout for the encampment... www.panicbuttonradio.com/images/layoutweb.jpgAs you will see I have a couple of items that I have question marks on, and that is the size of Katayama's Shade (he said that is was like an easy up which typically is 10 x 10 or similar) Katayama's second tent which he hasn't confirmed weather they are coming yet or their tent size, but as they are friends of his son who has a 9 x 7 I am assuming a parody in size, and lastly on Tatsuyama's tent size seeing as he hasn't bought it yet, so this will be kind of fluid until the day of layout. If anyone sees any size mistakes just let me know and I will change it. Here are links to the areas that we are camping in... Here is the barony layout, you will notice us to the bottom left... www.panicbuttonradio.com/images/land-allocation-rev2.pdfAnd here we are in relation to the rest of the site, Barony of Atenveldt is the big red patch in case you miss it... www.panicbuttonradio.com/images/EWXXIV%20-%20Overview.jpgThanks!

Yagyu-dono, re the last map you sent out.....where is Atenveldt's patch in comparison with the East? Apparently we're attached to the royal encampment and I'm wondering how far I'll have to stagger....er ;D....I mean walk between the two?? Sakuari Takamori ...less than two weeks and I *only* have four outfits to sew, banner to applique...oh and kabuto to basically strip down, punch, rivet and relace the shikoro.....sigh...why do I always leave things to the last minute....
