Patience, grasshopper. It's only July!
I was not planning on bringing this up until some time after Pennsic because some people on this board are busy enough getting ready for that.
(Note to self. Knorr Chinese chicken and mushroom soup packets......)

Yeah, I can't even reserve a camp site yet! ;D
I figure we will start seriously putting things together after the second week in September. That give people a chance to chill after the summer war season, and usually people are starting to think about pre-registration before the first discounts deadline (Typically the end of October).
It has been on my mind for some strange reason though...

OOooo i am not being impatient, i am just wondering if we gonna do the same as last year and what-not. I may be bringing 2 with me. Myself, my lady and her eldest son. So was just kinda testing the waters.
This weekend i start mad armor production. Gonna go with p0lastic for now since it is simple and easy to make. If all goes well i will make another out of leather later this year. Anyone recommend a helm maker that is reasonable? Is ashcraft baker still the way to go?

I don't know if I'll be going tothe next Estrella; it's going to depend largely on my being able to arrange airport pick-up in Phoenix and a ride back, but I plan to try. At any rate, Saionji-hime has dibs on the guest6 room and firxt shower for whatever night she's coming through, but anyone else coming south on I-5 or I-15 to connect to I-10 east to Arizona, talk to me about crash space; I'm close to the I-15/I-10 crossing. It's 6-7 hours from my house to Estrella. Morning coffee guaranteed.

If you need pick up and drop off at the air port just let me know and I am sure that I can get you something arranged. I know people who make their way out at different times during the week so I should be able to find someone who can get you on their way out. ;D

Actually, my routine is to boogie out Tuesday night from work and I generally make it to Palm Springs by midnight, which puts me in good shape for the run to Florence. If someone else wishes to avail themselves of crash space with Takadai-hime, they are free to do so.

There's still plenty of time to start thinking about this, but pre-Registration announcements have been making the rounds on various lists this week, so I figured I'd pass on the basics here. Evidently it was supposed to open at the beginning of August but was delayed due to some technical issues. www.estrellawar.org/RegistrationFrontGate/PreRegistration.aspxPre-Registration Deadlines October 31 2008: Last day to mail personal checks Mailed pre-registrations after this date must include money orders or certified checks. December 31 2008: Last postmark date for mailed pre-registration. On-line application still accepted. January 17 2009: Last date to pre-register online. Pre-registration closed !!!

After the weekend of the 13th I will be going into Estrella Planning Mode. EPM will be fairly consuming until the end of the year and then will pretty much become all consuming at the start of 2009.
I am already feeling the tingles. ;D

Found this in my mailbox this afternoon: "Word of your knowledge of Japanese culture has come to me. I know that this is a small but strong group in the SCA and I would like to encourage those who practice it, to have a chance to get together and share great information. To that end I am hoping you will agree to teach at this Estrella War a class on the subject, or any other you choose.
To sign up to teach please see the following site www.estrellawar.org/Activities/ArtsandSciences/ASTeacherSignUpForm.aspx
Thank you for your time and being willing to teach in the past and hopefully the future.
Take joy in the journey,
Dame Jennifer Trethewy Estrella A&S collegium"So, anybody want to suggest something they'd like to hear me expound upon? (My brain is full. I just did a five entry brain dump for the Kingdom A&S championship this weekend and I can't think past Great Western War yet.) For that matter, does anyone else who is attending Estrella want to offer a class to the collegium?

Etiquette?
Garb?
Courtly Presence *aka gracefulness*
Persona help?
Okay, so those are a few I can think of... even though I'm not going to attend, I was just thinking about what would be good for those interested.

Etiquette, movement and persona development could be one class. There's just one thing - I would not presume to teach this for men. (Anyone want to partner up and tag-team teach?) As for garb, what do people Who Are Actually Going To Be There want? A make and take workshop? A lecture? On what?

Well, you could possibly grab some friends, possibly have them dress in their Japanese finest and you can explain... I'm serious... There are a lot of people out there who think that Japanese garb *Yes, I've heard it said exactly this way* is nothing but "A pair of really baggy pants and a tunic that ties up front with a large sash."
When I meant Garb, I meant Japanese Garb. The basics mostly, for people who really want to learn and understand just exactly a person is wearing and suggestions for alternatives for people who just might be a bit new in the sca.
These are only suggestions, Makiwara-hime. I simply tried to think of myself as a newcommer wanting to learn about the Japanese culture. The above ideas were the first things that came to mind.

Well, you could possibly grab some friends, possibly have them dress in their Japanese finest and you can explain... Gonna teach it on Saturday, without inconveniencing everyone who would rather be pounding on the namban with rattan. The wonders of Powerpoint and a borrowed laptop. Taught that the year before this one at this war. Did waka (poetry) two Estrellas ago and am doing it again at GWW. Did the Literary Ladies of the Heian last year. The niche is only so big and I don't want to repeat the same thing if people have already done it.
