a book store as in "Barnes and Noble" or "Borders". good luck, im only a beginner too but the book that has been the most helpful for me (and the only book ive used so far) is Arms and Armor of the Samurai by Ian Bottomley. you will have to look for it on ebay though because its out of print . i got mine for $45 with shipping and handling

It depends - I've seen Effingham's book at our local Borders, so yours might have it. Gaming stores sometimes carry Osprey titles too. (I don't game, I just know boys who do.)
And there's always Amazon.com or alibris.com if you have to hunt something down.

Effingham has a book? i didnt know that, whats the title, i'll go buy it. He's done several titles for the Osprey series under his real (nonSCA) Anthony J. Bryant - I got this info off Amazon, so if you can't find them locally, try there: "Early Samurai: 200-1500 Ad" (Elite Series, Vol. 35), ISBN 1855321319 "Samurai: 1550-1600" ISBN 1855323451 "The Samurai" ISBN 1855329468 "Sekigahara 1600" ISBN 1841761168 "Sekigahara 1600: The Final Struggle for Power" ISBN 1855323958 Did I miss any? M. I've seen "Sekigahara 1600" at my local Borders.

Well looks like my local bookstore doesnt carry any of those listed... I didnt manage to find anything I had to have... Well Steve pointed out to me that Otagiri-dono's pic on this thread is the style he wants..
So I have suspended research until I get my grubby paws on Otagiri-dono's pattern.. I have found a place for helms, although it would require some work to make it a kabuto.. Thanks for the help so far ...
